Burnout; it happens from time to time and you should be aware of a few simple strategies to avoid burnout before it hits, or manage it when it does. Here are a few tips to take care of yourself to lessen the strain:

1.     Getting enough sleep

It is important that you try and get enough sleep at night. The recommended amount is eight hours per night. Make sure you aren’t using technology at least 30 minutes before bed, keep your bedroom dark, and try to keep the temperature of your bedroom comfortable for you.

2.     Healthy Eating

Eating three solid healthy meals per day can provide you with the extra energy needed to get tasks done that day. Skipping meals or one too many take-aways will sap your energy and morale and could lead to other health problems. Even between meals, it’s important to get two to three snacks in to keep energy and productivity levels high!

3.     Daily Downtime

Try and get out of the office to recharge midway through the day. Everyone needs a change of scenery and a mental break.

4.     Exercise

We have heard it before, exercise. Even if not a rigorous trip to the gym, a walk during lunchtime or after work is as good as anything and will release all the good endorphins. You don’t have to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, but a little light exercise daily will be good for your physical and mental health.

5.     Don’t be afraid to ask for help

You don’t have to carry the weight of the world of your shoulders. If you need help, ask for it – a manager or colleague are there to help you perform to your best and none of us are super human – we can’t do everything.

So there are our 5 essential strategies for avoiding and managing burnout at work. Give these strategies a try to help you feel back at your working best again.
